Rape or Marriage

This book coincides with the broadcast of a televsion film in the series 'The Way I See It'. In the programme Bruce Allsopp warns that what used to be a happy marriage between town and country has, in some cases, become brutal rape. He pleads for greater respect towards those buildings which make a statement about the human values that civilised people hope will endure, and about the decay of our environment in general.

Film often achieves a kind of impact that is impossible on the printed page. But in other ways, the page can be more persuasive. The two media can be, but seldom are, complementary.
