Panacea

Panacea is important because it provides a voice that is unapologetically employing the language of contemporary art. On the face of it, the project would seem to be rooted in irony using a parody of the British capacity for optimism to explore benign outcomes. The enthusiasm with which the artists set about their task may seem to encompass a kind of knowing naivety. But this is only the case if it is examined through the lens of objectivity, in this case science. The works themselves utilise the language of art and indeed reference other works and approaches. Because the work is rooted in the subjective, dealing with the unique and personal, it does not set out to 'prove' anything and it is in this context that the works are best encountered.
